Service Description

7 CE's for Licensed Massage and Bodywork Therapists. Massage can help someone undergoing a cancer diagnosis or cancer treatment if the therapist has the correct training, assessment skills and medical clearance to provide a safe and effective treatment plan. In this class we'll review basics taught in Class 1, and review indications, contraindication, modifications as taught in Oncology Basics. We'll add a few more gentle and therapeutic techniques safe for clients with a cancer diagnosis, undergoing cancer treatment, or recovering from cancer treatment. Oncology Massage can help clients assimilate medications more effectively, ease the effects of radiation, help clients reduce nausea, prepare the body for the traumatic effects of surgery, improve mind-body awareness, lift spirits along with other positive psychological affects, facilitating a more positive experience which can only help the client on their healing journey. Massage is safe when integrated into the patient’s overall treatment plan when their Oncology Treating Team provides medical clearance. In this Beyond Basics class we'll discuss the effects of depression and anxiety on the cancer patient and how to address that as a therapist staying within your Scope of Practice; we will address the physiological effects of cancer drugs and treatments that may cause constipation and the need for safe abdominal massage, which will be taught; we'll address how to safely works around colostomy bags, chemo ports, surgical dressings; the need for modifications, use of props to deliver the safest, most effective massage service for clients to receive seamless relief they deserve to help them on their healing journey. This class is hands-on: bring your table & hands-on supplies, 3-4 pillows, 4 hand towels, 1 bath towel, dress comfortably for hands-on exchange & practice. Be prepared to actively participate in order to level up your massage and bodywork therapy skills! Oncology 1 - Basics is a pre-requisite.
